Travel day

Driving

We headed north to visit my family for Thanksgiving. Two days of family and food. I’m tired and full just thinking about it.

Things I learned today

You don’t know of pain until you see a parent who knows they can’t comfort their child.

You don’t know strength – a true strength borne of love – until you see them do it anyway.

More tomorrow, friends.

Though trials should come

Two of our best friends lost their little boy last night. Your heart just aches. Certainly unexpected, a baby, a life of potential surrounded by a family full of love. Some things just shouldn’t be so.

But some earthly duties are short. Even as memories and pain and joy can all seem long-lasting.

Our hearts are with our friends Brian, Elizabeth and their daughter. They are a big part of our family, and they could use an extra prayer. I’ve been thinking a great deal about this hymn. Their hymnal and mine both contain it and, today, that’s enough.

We love you guys.

Thoughts and prayers

My great-grandmother fell and hurt herself. How badly I still don’t know. Relatives who live next door discovered her on her kitchen floor. She was promptly whisked to the local hospital, given X-Rays and then sent to a more capable facility.

She’s a tough woman, my great-grandmother. A few years ago she had open-heart surgery. She told me the day before the procedure that she was worried about how she was going to keep the yard nice, because your yard is what you should worry about at a time like that.

She’s tough and strong and sweet and perfectly lovely in every way.

So if you have a moment, we’d appreciate a quick prayer.
