Here’s my plan

One day, when the world slows down and I don’t have things to do or places to be, I’m going to do a study of leaves.

I’m going to pick a branch and mark it, somehow.

And then I’m going to take a picture of it each day, from buds until leaf drop. I’m going to do a study of a leaf.

That’s my plan.

One foot in front of the other

And now, a few pictures from yesterday’s run. It was just a quick half-hour three-miler.

I got tasked with running ahead, catching my breath and setting up an action shot:

It took several tries, and that one was as good as it got. (I blame the catching-my-breath part.) If you look just closely, The Yankee has both feet off the ground in that one, a proper running stride.

We posed:

And we took one of our alternate poses:

Batter up

Saturday was a beautiful afternoon. It was sunny and 40° and that’s about the best one can hope for in the middle of March. We watched the amazing #19 Indiana softball team take on the thoroughly OK, I guess, Northwestern Wildcats.

We had to break out the rally sunglasses.

But unfortunately the home team lost. One of the nice things about softball, though, aside from the swift play and the nice athleticism, is that there’s always another game. Yesterday they played a doubleheader. We caught the afternoon game, when Indiana took on, and defeated, the perfectly hapless Ohio Bobcats.

Softball played five games this weekend. It’s possible that they have the most grueling collegiate schedule among varsity sports — 55 games in three months, and that’s before tournament play. We know the starting catcher. She’d agree; it’s a lot. Great fun to see, though. It’d be nice if it were, you know, warmer. Because it’s mid-March.

Happy Pi Day

Ask a nice person out for pie. Date ’em for four-plus years. Get married. Eat pie every Friday for more than a decade. It works every time.

This one was a homemade apple pie. It was delicious.

Percussionist Foster Grant

After work, it was 68 degrees, and I went for a run. It was an easy 10K, and my longest run of the last two weeks. I went slow because it was so warm. And rounding one corner:

Tonight, we did a thing:

I love that movie and never could figure out why everyone in the band didn’t become a big star — except T. B. Player. That one was obvious.

There is going to be some good stuff in that account when we get it off the ground. You can just tell when you’re sitting on, and not following through with, a good idea.

What movies should we watch next for this? And should it only count if you watch the whole movie? Or could you just jump in midway through, say … Shawshank … and start chiming in about the rock hammer?

Hey, it’s spring break. These are the more-weighty-than-usual thoughts I come up with over spring break.
