Allez, Allez

The soft drinks don’t often speak to you, but when they do, you should consider listening:

I like to keep track of roads where I can break the speed limit on my bike. It is a short list. There’s only like six or seven roads in town.

Let’s call it eight after today.

Also, I use one of the popular apps to track all of my rides. In the app there are certain places along any given road which have been selected as courses where you can compete against other people. Today, one such course, I learned I’m three seconds off the pace set by an NFL first rounder, two-time all-SEC, 3rd-team all-American, two-time Super Bowl champ.

He doesn’t know it yet, but we’re about to race.

Spring has sprung, and video genius

Another beautiful spring weekend. Just can’t get enough of that feeling. Here are some pictures from riding around town on my bicycle:

My shadow-portrait:

This is an uphill sprint:

Seriously, you’ll hit about 30 up that road, into right about here:

Some cool videos I’ve been collecting this weekend:

Speaking of, How to Use Live Video to Bring Your Event to the World.

And, finally. Two guys covered a Guster song. Guster found it and covered the cover, which is typical genius:

Let’s go ride bikes!

Beautiful, gorgeous spring day. We went for a bike ride because today was the sort of day you’d custom order if you could and bottle up if you knew how. We didn’t train or hit maximum heart rates or set any personal bests. But we did enjoy the sound of two silent wheels and the warmth of the sun and the stillness of the air.

And even if the time did not meet your very low expectations, you could still find views like this.

I’m never good at remembering this, so I’ll need you to remind me of it, but moments like this are why you always say yes, I do want to go ride.

Don’t forget to look up

Sometimes angels use parachutes:

And sometimes angels are smaller than you’d imagine they should be: Auburn heart transplant recipient meets donor family, families encourage community to donate life.

You should definitely look up: Spies in the skies

And look back: Meet the Forgotten ‘Rocket Girls’ Who Helped NASA Reach the Stars.

And all around: How to Take Better Street Photographs by Staying Inconspicuous.

Just look.

What’s not to love about spring?

One of the things I’ve learned in life is this: clichéd sayings are just that for a reason and people can repeat them to you forever, but you have to teach yourself about them.

Like the one about stopping to smell the flowers:

No one is going to make you understand that. You have to get it for yourself.

At a baseball game tonight the home crowd heckled the visiting third baseman. Turns out it was his birthday, too and for his trouble he got a custom-signed baseball. That’s not bad:
