Sleepy Saturday

I’m not ashamed to say it. I slept in. Very, very late. We went to a baseball game.

Before the game I sprawled out on the floor to stretch my back and shoulders and promptly fell asleep.

At the park we sat through a brief weather delay, during which I shot this video:

It is a Hyperlapse video — and you don’t hear about those much any more for some reason. That’s a little over three minutes of clouds moving directly overhead. I slapped some music on it and uploaded it from my phone because we live in an interesting time where you can record video on a super computer that spends most of its time in your pocket. And not only can you record video there, but you can speed it up, slow it down, edit it and do any number of other great things to that video, all from your telephone.

And then I uploaded it to YouTube because we live in an interesting time where we upload a lot of things to YouTube. And now it is here, because this is where all of my things land.

When play resumed we saw Auburn sweep their first conference series in three years, we went for dinner and then came home.

I’m thinking about going to bed at a reasonable time, too.

It has been that kind of day.

A tiger of a start to the weekend

The life of a costume character is pretty weird, if you think about it.

The life of a costume character is pretty good, if you think about it.

That all started because she pointed out that Aubie seemed to have some lipstick on his fur. He had something pink staining the mouth area. There was also something with a light peach shade. Who knows where it all comes from, girls, kids, cotton candy, a comic bit he did, the random impulsive smooches that a costume character steals.

Two classes today on broadcast scripts. That meant two more class preps and will somehow double the stack of papers I need to grade.

Ran late getting off of campus, but that just let me run into Katie, an old Crimson editor I worked with a few years ago. She has a photography business now. She was one of those you never worried about too much, good things were always in her reach.

We went to a cookout after the game and shot the breeze with a half dozen friends. Had a great time of it, too. Probably because of the food, which was pretty incredible. No one thought to bring any bowls or spoons for the beans, so they stayed on the grill, but the chicken and the deer were terrific. The company was great, too. I bet the beans would have been delicious.

Aubie didn’t show up at the cookout, but he could have and he would have been well fed.

Day at the park

Enjoyed a doubleheader of baseball today. The first game was at noon, and A-Day was going on across the street. It was a busy afternoon, with people still filtering in at the end of the first game and staying through the second.

The home team got beat in the first game, prompting the rally caps in the late innings. If you didn’t wear a cap you go with the rally sunglasses.

Auburn blanked Ole Miss in the second game 14-0 to take the series. We watched online as the Auburn gymnasts earned a sixth place finish at the national championships and the softball team won just down the street. Also, there was the win-either-way nature of A-day game. It was a fine day to be a sports fan.

Pizza for dinner, kitty cuddles after that. Think I’ll go read myself to sleep now.

I re-define spring

Happy Good Friday.

Productive morning. Reasonable lunch. Nice chat with the dean. Two classes this afternoon, talking feature story generation in one class and profile stories in the other.

And, then, this:

So this is my current definition of spring: I am jealous of people noodling around on cruiser bikes in a cul-de-sac.

Sat with friends and had a grand time watching a baseball game this evening. Then The Yankee and I went to Mellow Mushroom for pizza and pretzels. They’ve been renovating and they moved the wacky, grinning, blinking, glowing cat:

And that’s about enough. I feel like a nice long springtime nap. Probably I’ll dream about riding my bike.

Hours of ping

Today Auburn played a doubleheader against Vanderbilt. There’s rain in the forecast today, so let’s play two! … Against one of the best teams in the country and the defending national champions. No biggie!

We watched almost eight hours of baseball today. Good thing we got in a bike ride this morning, however so brief. In between games we got a snack and then went back to sit in the cooling night air, get rained on and watch a marathon, 10-inning game. Auburn was down, but not out. In the bottom of the ninth all of this happened.

And then, with the score tied, Vandy went ahead by a run in the 10th. In the bottom of the frame it all came down to a bloop single in right field.

Apparently the TV announcers said the umpire blew the call. Our DVR recorded three hours of the game, which got us through the first eight innings, but not the next 63 minutes of game time.

It was a long day. Auburn lost the series, but it looks like they proved to themselves that they can hang with a great team. In the press box, meanwhile, the poor guy ran out of songs to play from his iPod, I think.

Good times, nice people and plenty of fun.
