Happy Birthday to me

Snow

My mother and me, in the snow, some decades ago at my grandparents’ home. I wonder who took this picture.

Perspective: My students are the same age, or older, as my mother is in this photograph.

Further perspective: When she was my age today, my mother had a 15-year-old son learning to drive. Frightening.

How she did it I’ll never know, but all of the things a mother must do, she did well. She’s a special lady.

And I don’t feel a day older. Just don’t stare at the silver in my hair, OK?

Catching up

Allie

We found a cat under the Christmas tree! She found a toy … and ornaments.

Tree

And then we encouraged it by taking pictures. Allie being Allie, this was not encouragement. She hates the camera. Not that any cat enjoys a camera, but Allie has a knack for even knowing when the phone becomes more than a phone. And she will walk away.

Numbers

They’re running numbers at Moe’s Original Barbecue in Lakeview. I hope they’re all coming to my table.

Sunset

Sunset in Auburn.

Sunset

That same sunset in Auburn, from the same spot. The difference was one haircut.

Strike a pose

HeisRen

Auburn picked up the school’s third Heisman trophy tonight when Cam Newton was honored in New York. Before the most boring (and, this year, anti-climactic) made-for-television spectacle of a relatively useless award, The Yankee threw three frozen boxes of corn for touchdowns.

She celebrated on the back aisle of the grocery store.

War Eagle.

Catching up

All Auburn-themed today, as we are still enjoying the big game.

Toomer’s Corner, the morning after:

Toomer's

That’s Toomer’s Corner looking from the intersection of Magnolia and College. They’d already cleared up the shin-deep paper on the ground. We saw bits in trees beyond the library to the south and half a block up to the north. We saw bits on the ground this morning four blocks away.

Last night I was trying to take a picture down by Foy Union. I popped the flash on my camera and you could see the specks floating in the air. That’s two-tenths of a mile away, as the crow flies.

This could be a great Christmas card:

Samford

I wonder how much money you have to donate to Tiger’s Unlimited to get one of these:
