We’re getting down to the year’s last studio sessions

Today’s color scheme is blue.

These awesome cufflinks were a gift from my awesome mother, who once spent a day following me in her car on a bike course and helped me, with Christmas money, buy one of my bikes. And now I want to go for a ride.

Tonight, though, the sadness begins. We’re winding down the semester, which means change is inevitable. Michael Dugan has hosted this talk show for two years, a steady voice that has given us great topics, cool updates to the segments and, like every good host, always has about 14 more topics than necessary at the ready.

He’s passing over the show to Drew Frey, who has been running audio for the sports shows for more than a year. He started out doing social media segments when we had extra time in the studio and took those opportunities to boost his delivery and tighten up his writing. If he grows into this show like he’s grown into everything else, it’ll be great.

It’s a fun time of year. Seeing the graduating students move on, reflecting on their great promise and watching people step into new roles.

What they shot tonight should be online tomorrow. For now, though, you can see some of the latest shows:

On the air

It is audition season at IUSTV. Out with the graduating, and in with the new, basically. It’s a fun time, but an emotional time. It is a time of repetitive scripts and camera shots, and a time of surprises.

Also, we’ve been nurturing a funny little rivalry between two of the entertainment shows. The morning show and the late night crowd have been putting little jokes past one another and recording little tongue-in-cheek promos about one another.

Well. Today, the host of Not Too Late jumped into the auditions of the Breakfast Club. He sat in the control while the crew went through the last segments of the real show and a few auditions. He wrote, on the spot, three minutes of jokes for a new script, and put them before the co-host of the morning show. They were all quite good, and she made us vow to never show it anywhere. She didn’t, however, say anything about gifs.

Entertainment, news, sports, it’s always fun watching them work and giving them a hand. Anyway, here are the last episodes the various crews have produced:

Play ball!

This evening IU softball hosted Purdue for a doubleheader. It was faculty and staff appreciation night. As a part of that the players were asked to select a person who makes a big impact on their time on campus. So the starting catcher, Bella Norton, nominated The Yankee:

Norton went 3-6 on the night and the Hoosiers split the double-dip. She’s a fine catcher, commands the field as a fiery competitor and she works with a terrific all-conference caliber pitcher. Also, I had her in class last year, which was a good deal of fun. But The Yankee got the autograph tonight.

It has happened before

For three days in a row the air around us has given us hints of spring.

That’s called a winning streak.

Maybe in three or four more weeks we’ll be able to confidently say the condition has stuck.

YBYSAIA

A couple of boxes were waiting at the door this weekend. My mom sent me a few nice gifts, including these handsome turtle cufflinks. These will go with anything!

There were several other sets of cufflinks, and so now I have a very large collection that will require their own storage solution. Presently I’m using a few sections of one of my bathroom drawers to keep them organized. Yes, I have drawer sections, don’t you? Sometime back I cross sectioned balsa wood to keep all the contents from sliding around. I put in a bit of foam for cufflinks. I cut some slits into the foam so my cufflinks would all be neatly arranged in pairs.

What? This isn’t something you did one Saturday morning, too?

Anyway, I lately made some cufflinks out of buttons. My purchased cufflinks nicely filled one section of that draw. Then I made some more out of buttons I found. That became two sections of my bathroom drawer. This weekend my cufflinks grew by several more pairs. So I’m going to have to come up with another solution. Maybe a custom drawer or storage box.

And, most importantly, my wrists look snazzy.

Here’s some television to watch online. First, the Not Too Late crowd put a new co-host character on their show. He’s a bit nervous, and that worked pretty well. It is even funnier if you know the guy, who isn’t nervous about anything, really. They also had an extemporaneous student government campaign, which was quite amusing. This was a good episode:

The morning show got all civic-minded with a city council member:

And a throwback bit from the old pros:
