Catching up

There are extra pictures during a photo week? Yes. That’s why we’re catching up.

We recently enjoyed one of those afternoons that was simultaneously happy and bright and ominously dark. Spooky.

Just a moment later, and having turned from north to west:

You figure this out. I can buy an heirloom cantaloupe variety whole. Or I can buy two halves, already cut and seeded, for less. Hmm.

In core of the Auburn campus, seen here with Tichenor to the left and Haley off to the front right, where they have taken great pains to create a pedestrian experience. (Here’s a before shot.) Since the cars are gone students can safely walk on beautiful wide sidewalks. So let’s put food trucks out there! The one on the right is a gelato truck. The one on the right is from Momma Goldberg’s. The restaurant is literally two blocks away. (“Back in my day … “)

Is it football season yet? This week. This week. I grabbed this accidental frame while trying to get another shot of an old game off the television screen. It is avante and, perhaps, garde, but I like it:

Photo week – Thursday

A photo (or two) a day meant to express everything that needs to be said. Don’t over extrapolate or strain yourself making too many inferences. They are just pictures.

tomatoes

Come have a tomato with me! We picked up our basket o’ vegetables today, and there are four giant, beautiful red ones in the bottom. I still have two or three left from last week’s basket.

I love a good tomato, but in our house I am the tomato eater. And if you don’t eat them with almost every meal they pile up.

I don’t care for cherry tomatoes too much. I’d rather have grapes. We have a ton of grapes.

Come have grapes with me!

APStylebooks

Time to get ready for another great school year. I’ve been getting ready — email and strategies and studying up — for some time. But I bought two copies of the newest version of the AP Stylebook today, that somehow made it more real.

Meanwhile, on the other side of town:

Just one thing

… And, no, this isn’t fishing for anything. Since I’ve been hurt I’ve received many fine cards and a few nice phone calls. I got an awesome tree. I got a care package with snacks — and a yo-yo! I got a great book on 20th century history. I love them all.

But the next time I have to send something to someone, I’m sending food.

Because this brisket, from our friends Kate and John, was awesome.

brisket

Awesome. It showed up on our doorstep and we baked it. What a country, as they say. Now we have several days of comfort food stocking the fridge. Our refrigerator has, perhaps, never looked this good. And our refrigerator is usually stocked with tons of delicious things.

But, tonight, brisket.

Seven Fourths

You have them, we have them. Our Fourth of July tradition involves going to Dreamland, which we visited in Montgomery this evening, enjoying some ribs and pudding and then settling in for an evening of fireworks. So this is a running quilt of summer memories, reading left to right, from top to bottom.

SevenFourths

Happy Fourth of July. Hope yours is as good as mine.
