Glomeratas

The Glomerata is the annual yearbook of my alma mater, Auburn University. This feature on the site gives a quick glance at the beautiful and curious covers of the book, which I collect.

At this point in the Glomerata feature section of the site we are now boldly entering the late 1970s. This is Homecoming week at Auburn. And within these three Gloms you’ll find the one marking my birth year (which happens to be one of my favorites). These facts together mean absolutely nothing.

Anyway. Go here for the next three installments. Visit here for the entire section of Glom covers. Try here for some more in-depth looks at various years.

In the Glomerata section of the site we are now squarely in the middle of the 1970s, where there seems to be a bit of a sorting out going on when it came to Auburn’s yearbook art. It would seem even the college kids had figured out this decade. Go here for the next three installments. Visit here for the entire section. For some more in-depth looks at various years try here.

Glomerata65

This is the cover of the 1965 Glomerata, the yearbook of Auburn University. I showed this one off last week as a trio from the middle of the 1960s. The 1963 edition was very classical, staid, black leather, the simple interlocking AU in the lower right corner of the front corner. The 1964 was a violent explosion of parakeet innards. It is foolhardy to make conclusions about a time or place based on one book cover. Most people would probably say, “Welp, that’s 1964 for ya.”

But all that happened at Auburn a little bit later.

Anyway, the latest installment in the ongoing Glomerata section of the site are covers in the last half of the 1960s. Go here for the handsome 1966, 1967 and the regrettable 1969 cover. If you’re new to this, you can see all my covers here. Finally, you can find more details about select years on campus through their installments of the yearbook here.

Glom60

Back to the old yearbook collection with three new installments, all firmly in the 1960s. I have a suspicion that what took place in most of the country in the ’60s probably didn’t arrive at Auburn for a few more years, but even still you can see in the photos inside that the times were becoming a Bob Dylan song.

Here are the new additions to the collection, starting with 1963. It is everything the ’60s could hope for and the ’80s were inspired by in graphic design. Makes you long for the good old days. For previous covers, including some of the good old days in the collection, go here. For a little bit more context of the loveliest village at specific points in it’s history, try here.

And we’ll have more from the Glomerata section next week.
