"Some other institutions need to give descriptive names to their bands in order to praise them. The quality of the music, the precision of its drills, and the fine image that it portrays have made it unnecessary for us to say more than, "This is the Auburn University Band." -Former Auburn President, Dr. Harry Philpott

Auburn's band, in 1995, was made up of about 330 members. Fifty or so were music majors. The Glomerata notes that they practiced on "Wilbur 'Bodie' Hinton Field, one of the finest ourdoor band rehearsal facilities in the country."

It always just looked like an empty field to me.

Comparatively speaking, the 1953 band had about 100 members, their ranks had surged to 250 in 1976. Today they muster 375 members.

And, for whatever reason, you will never see an audience pop louder for a band's pre-game video.
