You'll be pleased to know this is all-but complete now. And it is wonderful. It stretches across the Americas, covering some 19,000 miles, except for one little stretch in Panama and north Colombia, a 66-mile patch of all-but-impassable mountains and rain forest.

If you've ever been on an interstate in the U.S., you've also been on this highway. It's just not celebrated in the same way here as it is to the south. But you could get in a car and drive from Prudhoe Bay in Alaska all the way down to southernmost Argentina.

That'd be just under 13,500 miles of driving, not counting the Darien Gap.
