Sage was a financier, a railroad boss, a politician and not at all a robber baron. Opinions of him are mixed, but his money went a long way. Olivia, his second wife, inherited his $70 million fortune in 1906. She poured the money into dozens of charities, universities and buildings, including the Russell Sage Foundation and, in 1916, the Russell Sage College for women.

Russell Sage is still around today; located in upstate New York, Russell Sage College offers several different kinds of nursing programs.
