Everybody liked ads like this -- and not just for the cutesy illustration -- because insects were pests. Also, the product was in the background, the fatal result was right there in your face. Death. Or at least a bemused stupor.

Then Joni Mitchell released Big Yellow Taxi in 1970 and Gulf was a vibrant company until 1980, and then gone by 1984, the end was a forced merger with Chevron.

And we still have insects, but we sometimes view them a bit differently today. You know, with six legs, like proper insects.

Also, you don't see a lot of ads with aerosol cans these days, do you?
