Consider the contrarian who got shouted down over this ad copy. I wonder how long he kept that grudge alive.

All of this, of course, was written before planned obsolescence became an executive watchword. Most of the appliances I grew up with I used as hand-me-downs for most of my early adulthood. These days, they can tell you exactly when your machine is going to die.

(Often, just a few months after Sears closes in your town.)
