Look, this isn't J. Edgar Hoover's fault -- he just wrote this elsewhere and the Digest picked it up -- but someone should tell the magazine's illustrators that this guy? He has a face. He is lacking in the shoulders, torso and lower body, however.

Col. Rudolf Ivanovich Abel was in the U.S. and no one knew about it. One of his underlings, a Lt. Col. Reino Hayhanen was summoned home to Moscow. This was a bad sign. So he rolled over on his boss.

Abel was ultimately sentenced to 30 years. He served less than five and was traded for shot-down American U-2 pilot Francis Gary Powers. He died of cancer in 1971. Hayhanen died in what some think was a suspicious car crash in Pennsylvania in 1961, just four years after his defection.
