Do you really think it was a kidding they took in 1948? Maybe we're too far away to judge for ourselves, but maybe kidding wasn't what it really was.

Of course by the 1960s, the hippies loved them. Seven years from now kids would fall in love with Herbie, and in a decade, they'd move more of Bugs than Ford did of the Model-T. (Toyota would eventually take that crown with the Corolla.)

These days, VW has a public perception issue with something called Diselgate.

I wonder what became of those two 1949 models, though.
