We made a fine sight calling out &#8220;Heeeeere bear, where are you?&#8221; We did this all day, first on a three-mile hike.<\/p>\n<p>Our second hike was a six-miler, and the more successful of the two, on <a TARGET=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/alltrails.com\/trail\/us\/alaska\/south-fork-of-eagle-river\">the South Fork of Eagle River trail<\/a>. We met four dogs there. And saw scenes like this: <\/p>\n<p><center><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.kennysmith.org\/photo\/may14\/alaska155.jpg\" alt=\"Alaska\" \/><\/center><\/p>\n<p>We crossed streams coming off glaciers and headed for nearby lakes. <\/p>\n<p><center><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.kennysmith.org\/photo\/may14\/alaska156.jpg\" alt=\"Alaska\" \/><\/center><\/p>\n<p>We walked on this nice, clean, new trail:<\/p>\n<p><center><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.kennysmith.org\/photo\/may14\/alaska157.jpg\" alt=\"Alaska\" \/><\/center><\/p>\n<p>And stared at mountains to our front, left and right.<\/p>\n<p><center><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.kennysmith.org\/photo\/may14\/alaska158.jpg\" alt=\"Alaska\" \/><\/center><\/p>\n<p>On our way back we rounded a curve in the trail and saw: <\/p>\n<p><center><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.kennysmith.org\/photo\/may14\/alaska159.jpg\" alt=\"Alaska\" \/><\/center><\/p>\n<p>I got to within about 25 yards of them before they started walking away. <\/p>\n<p><center><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.kennysmith.org\/photo\/may14\/alaska160.jpg\" alt=\"Alaska\" \/><\/center><\/p>\n<p><center><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.kennysmith.org\/photo\/may14\/alaska161.jpg\" alt=\"Alaska\" \/><\/center><\/p>\n<p>Having gotten my shots, and feeling lucky to not make the mother charge me, I left them alone. <\/p>\n<p><center><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.kennysmith.org\/photo\/may14\/alaska162.jpg\" alt=\"Alaska\" \/><\/center><\/p>\n<p><center><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.kennysmith.org\/photo\/may14\/alaska163.jpg\" alt=\"Alaska\" \/><\/center><\/p>\n<p>We finished our hike, now we need to see some bears. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Today we swam (I got in a mile in a military pool) and hiked in two different places, in search of wildlife.
