In 1977 The Birmingham News put out a special collection of headlines spanning the last three-quarters of a century. The book was well received locally and, in time, forgotten.

In 2006 I ran across a copy of Memorable Pages in an off-the-beaten-path used bookstore north of the city. Dusty, smelling of aging pulp, the book details a fascinating glimpse across several key periods in the city's history through 100 front pages.

This project is intended as a brief historic note of the greater Birmingham area and a nod to the many quality journalists who've covered The Magic City and central Alabama, quality reporters that make us proud.

Hopefully these will be offered on a regular basis, with a few new pages each week until we've completed the book chronologically. My apologies for the reproduction quality -- my scanner isn't large enough, hence the photographs -- but then as now, content is the key.
