This is the athletics section of the 1995-96 book but, for some reason, they put Toomer's Corner in with the sports.

Since it figures so prominently in the history of the place, and since we've had several views of it throughout the project I've included it here.

So for comparison's sake, here are views from 1952, and again and a different view. Here's a great ad. They were doing a little comparison of their own in 1976.

Note the traffic lights. A few years after this photograph the city installed turn lanes and the lights with the protected arrow. It was one of the first signs, really, that change was coming to Auburn. It was a huge controversy.
