I recall a conversation in the newsroom of the campus paper during my sophomore year where we discussed political correctness at great length. Research was conducted and found the concept dated well back into the 18th Century, but rose to prominence in the 1970s and 1980s. So we silently thanked the generation that came before us. We'd call them names, but one must be PC, you know.

The passage is written here as if all of these things came to pass during the 1995 school year or thereabouts. Perhaps it was meant to be read 50 years from now rather than just a few because "the increasing importance of equality" and "terms reflecting equality" didn't sweep over men and womyn over night.

Probably this was as big a topic for journalism majors and similar programs as anyone else. If you were on Ag Hill or studying biology there was anatomy and Latin to learn. Those of us in the delicate art of letters must always demonstrate the latest, considerate fasions.
