Again. Aubie: Ladies man.

This photo is from Camp War Eagle, a summertime freshman orientation program. The 1995 CWE was the first such program, so I was a part of a new Auburn tradition.

This was a weekend you spent in dorms, hanging out with upperclassmen, walking around campus, hearing lore and legends. There were parties, Tiger Walks and even a pep rally inside the football stadium.

Aubie is posing here with some of the program's counselors after that pep rally. It seemed a little silly, sitting in the stadium in June, in a building built for 87,000 and a football game. Oh, how we cheered, as if our every scream would get stuck in the steps and stones of the place, waiting to be unleashed that fall on some hapless opponent.

Football players were lifting weights that summer. We yelled a lot. We all have out own workout regimens.

Two important things happened during that trip: I received my parking pass and took the photo for my student ID: I'd arrived.

Actually the ID card wasn't in hand. They mailed that home a few weeks later. Back in my day your ID was an actual photo laminated on a card. Not so these days, with your "digital images." Also my freshman or sophomore year began the Tiger Card accounts, where you (meaning your parents) could put money on your ID and run it like a debit card.

Few off-campus vendors adopted the plan early on, for reasons that made no sense even then. The only things you could really use your cards for back then were the vending machines, as a library card or in the cafeterias. Now it is a currency and an admittance pass to events. Some things have changed, as we'll continue to see.
