This is during the Florida-Auburn football. On balance it was a bad day as the Tigers dropped their third straight game to fall to 3-4-1 on the season. This scene must have been worth making the trip into the stadium.

That's James Foy, the Dean of Student Affairs, who was a prominent face of the leadership around campus.

To see him up in the air though ...

Over the years he led Auburn students to several world records for blood donations, having given more than seven gallon himself the last time the library checked. He was a highly decorated fighter pilot in the war, would serve Auburn for 25 years before his retirement in 1978, has the Student Union named in his honor as well as the trophy presented each year to the winner of the Iron Bowl.

He's still about town. The last time I watched a baseball game at Plainsman Park he was sitting just off third base. His smile was as infectious as ever, and always ready to meet with friends and talk to strangers. Foy is as beloved an Auburn man as anyone could be.
