That pretty much says it all.

Title IX was passed in 1972 and was sweeping into effect. The changes were quickly apparent at Auburn, which in the 1975 school year offered women participation in five sports with softball, track and field soon to come. Soccer, as mentioned earlier, would come after brief litigation in 1993. Analysts now observe that that was a win-win for all parties.

Sandra Newkirk, the director of women's athletics was quoted urging the need for scholarships for female athletes. That would, of course, happen in short order. Newkirk retired as a coach and professor in 2005 after 40 years on the plains, with much of that time spent building programs that are creating lasting legacies.

For basketball itself, this was Auburn's best season to date, as the Lady Tigers went 14-5 and finished third in the state tournament. The head coach, Susan Nunneley, said a lack of team height problem held the ladies back. Nunneley is apparently still on campus as a faculty member as of this writing.

The socks were winners through and through.
