Auburn's track and field team would set several school records on the season.

But first, note the guy on the front row, second from the right. Freshman Harvey Glance would, in his collegiate career, tie the world record in the 100 meters twice, and win the championship in that event three times. He was a gold medalist in the 1976 Montreal Olympics. He'd later return to coach the Auburn team before leaving for rival Alabama during my time on the plains.

Beyond Glance the team boasted two other world class sprinters in Willie Smith, far left on the second row, and All American Clifford Outlin, who was apparently too fast to be seen by the camera.

Outlin and Glance would both post 6.0 times in the 60-yard dash. Smith, who was later also an Olympian, blazed a 47.8 in the 400-yard dash to set a school record. He'd later destroy that time with a 46.2 second effort. Outlin clocked a 9.4 100-yard dash, Smith ran a blistering 20.9 in the 200-yard dash. A school record was also set in the mile (4:08.8).

All of those times have been bested several times over by later generations of Tigers.
