The Drake Medical Center!

The place was old and antiquated when I was an underclassmen, and apparently the student-patients of the 1970s felt the same way. The Glomerata staff rightly pointed out that the only way it would improve would be if the students shelled out more in fees. I suppose that was one of the controveries of the day, and I'd guess that whatever plan was suggested was shot down.

In my junior year the University sold the Drake and the medical care program off to a private contractor, one of the first on the campus proper to my knowledge. That company hired me to photograph and document their rennovation efforts. I worked in this building for the better part of six months, took lots of pictures, got a newspaper clipping and a grade out of the deal. It worked out well, even if the pictures looked a lot like this, come to think of it, because privacy laws said you couldn't show patients, but you could show construction workers!

A few years later that company was gone and some other system was put in place.

In the 1970s the Drake had an ambulance service. Where the guy parked when he was delivering patients is as much a mystery now as then.

Incidentally, that big hulking mass in the foreground of the left picture is a piece of heavy machinery that was involved in the landscaping.
