This, of course, would have been my mother's freshman Glomerata, had she attended Auburn. I'm proud to say this part of the process hasn't changed.

Books on books on books with those annoying little cards sticking out of the shelf. It is the same on most campuses today, of course, and you'd go blind trying to match the letter and number code of your book list to those note cards.

The prices were probably still shocking to the students. And the professors, when they heard about it the next day were probably also faux-shocked. The more things change, the more they stay the same, as the saying goes. I'd even guess which store this is, but at a certain point all college bookstores look pretty much the same.

There's a photograph in this Hassles section of the book with an old man running a register at a bookstore. I didn't include it here, but he looked tired from the world and all these pesky college kids who think they're smart because they're in college. That's changed. Only beautiful coeds and rugged fraternity types work in these places now. And aside from about eight days of madness each term it must be a great gig.

Also, the plaid pants there are long gone. We're all very relieved.
