Shug Jordan retired at the end of a 4-6-1 season. He left his alma mater as the program's winningest coach. His teams played in 13 bowls. He won a national championship in 1957 and coached a Heisman Trophy winner in 1971.
The Glomerata proclaims:
Shug is more than:
176 victories,
25 years of coaching,
Learning to say 'Jur-dan',
and Auburn football.
More than:
Sullivan to Beasley,
A 1957 National Championship,
Thanksgiving with the Beat,
And 17-16 (Punt, Bama, Punt).
Coach Jordan is more than just:
The first jalf of Jordan-Hare,
"You're so right, Carl", and
Orange and blue.
Shug Jordan is
Auburn University to many,
And, more,
A fine man to all.
