This shot is cropped for a purpose.
Look behind the treeline to that structure in the background. That's the old rappelling tower the ROTC used. From this little structure I can tell that the place where these ROTC members have gathered no longer exists.
The tower was still on campus when I arrived, 20 years later, and seemed unchanged. The unofficial word was that the tower may or may not have been condemned.
By whom? The Department of Tower Condemnation, of course. Who else?
The tower was still in use, though. It would be torn down during my time on the plains. More on the drill field on the next page.
If only I had a better sense of contemporary history during my time in school I would have been more aware of the changes going on in my own world at the time. I could have, perhaps, picked up a sliver of the wood to save away, intent on one day scanning it and putting it on this page.
Who does that sort of thing? The Brotherhood of Minute Nostalgia and Ephemera. Who else?
