This is the 1976 Glomerata staff. They're included here because they deserve the credit for all the hard work that went into this book. If only they could have known that it would be put online three decades later. Would they have done anything different?

This is a good book, and I hope it was well received. That's the thing about yearbooks, they can document most anything but themselves, and there isn't really a review to consult. Until now.

These young men and women had full and busy schedules, and managed to put this book out in the spring to document their lives and setting themselves up for wisecracks from their children. And so here we are.

A few things to note: See the guy in the dark shirt on the second row? He's holding the original text art that adorns the front cover of the book. You and I may never know, but it is a fair bet that of the lamp shade, the open umbrella and the bike at least one of them was an inside joke that they chuckled over for a few years. The humor died out about the same time as that typewriter on the front row. The slide projector, so important at the time, would become an anachronism soon after.

Which is how I should answer the question of why I collect these books, posed and candid, this is the glossy-coated history of a place. The people come and go and the styles change, but the ideals have lived down through the generations of brick buildings, autumn afternoons and into the next spring's morning of promise. That's what the writers were trying to get at with this book's theme: the essence of Auburn.
