Burton's was little more than a stone's throw from Hawkins, but you could tell what's what.

"Yeah, old man Hawkins might have cornered us on the niceties, but we've got something new every day! And, if you like books you'll prefer our store. See? Books go all the way to the ceiling there. 'But how do you get them down?' you ask. Good question. We've got ladders. Just one of those little new somethings. Hawkings can't top that."

While more expensive, I'm beginning to think that book shopping was easier and more convenient in my day. And perhaps more air conditioned as well.
