"Doc" Hodge had been a famous Auburn supporter for decades in those pre-integration days. If you listen long enough and close enough to the right people you'll occasionally hear a story about him.

One of those appearances is in the discussion of how and why we started rolling Toomer's Corner after football wins. No one suggests that Hodge did it first, but he was certainly there for it.

There's another story, from 1949, that Hodge was kept out of the student section of Cliff-Hare Stadium for a game. The students were indignant.

There are a few other stories, here and there, about the man, but they're all uncomfirmed in the misty haze of memory. What remains certain is that Hodge remained remained a proud fan of a school that wouldn't welcome his family for study.
