This is Track and Field star Jim Dillion. I wrote about him in the examination of the 1952 Glomerata, but it is worth repeating here.

The man took this little disc and threw it. Very far. He defeated the world record holder in the national event. He threw it far enough, in fact, to earn a bronze in the Olympic Games. He also won two international meets.

His career long, achieved in this season, was 175'- 3/58".

By contrast, the current NCAA record is owned by an Auburn man, Gabor Mate, with a distance of 219'-9".

Nine other Auburn men (and one Auburn woman) have achieved distances beyond Dillion, that's how much training has changed in two generations.
