Judging by the caption this is the bank of electronics that passed as a philosophy professor. That explains a bit now, doesn't it?

From the needles to the oscillator to the motor to the patch cords I see a lot in this photograph that I recognize, but put together I'm not convinced of what it represents.

The one thing that stands out is that all of this equipment is temporary. Every bit sits on carts and wheels. It is as if they new we'd come along and sweep it away in short order, replacing this philosophical machine with something of which Isaac Asimov would approve.

These students read Asimov. I, Robot was a hit just a few years before. Did they ever consider his Three Laws of Robotics?

The guy on the left didn't. Wing tips don't think about such things.
