Comer Hall, the college of agriculture where I spent much of my time at Auburn.

The building was a little less ADA compliant back then -- they didn't get around to doing that until I was in college anyway. That big beautiful oak tree standing over the photographer is gone. All of that lawn is too. They paved it, as Joni Mitchell said, and put up a parking lot.

When I was on campus someone rediscovered this ancient of Comer with cattle grazing from the 1920s. Now there's a herd of foriegn cars and pickup trucks out front. There are also two computer labs and an extremely high-tech lecture hall. The innards have changed a great deal in this building, much like all of the buildings on campus when comparing the mid-20th Century to modernity. Auburn was on the front of the technology curve, so the computer labs we had in the mid-90s were top notch; foriegn to our grandparents, but already laughable today.

Forestry was a degree within the college of agriculture. Today it has branched out, but back then it was a brand new discipline on campus. The only Cooperative Wildlife Unit in the South was found right here and fisheries enjoyed a world-class reputation, then as now.

During my time CoAg boasted one of the most highly regarded programs in the country. Some things never change.
