Auburn has had many names over the years.

This marker, placed in 1951, helps explain it. The marker would stay accurate for a few more years, until the school was officially named Auburn University in 1960.

This probably also located near Samford Hall, where a new marker is located. Of all the things that have changed, Auburn remains proud of its land grant heritage, and much of the research and service that stems from the institution is due in part to 19th Century Congressman Justin Smith Morrill.
