That's a 1958 release from The Everly Brothers. It is hard to imagine anything pre-dating them from the era because they seem so ubiquitous, but Don was 15 and Phil was 13 when this book was released.

Remarkably, the terminology has changed, but the first time anyone hears that song today, they know exactly what's going on with Johnnie, and the guy in this picture, which might say more about what changes and doesn't than anything else here.
