Not much was expected of them, but they came out and upset heavily favored Vanderbilt in the season opener and finished the year 5-5.

Nobody expected that, except perhaps some of the players themselves, who welcomed their new coach and what was considered one of the most demanding training schedules any of the players had ever endured.
