The Alabama Farmer was one of the more respected agricultural publications in the nation, because it came out of one of the most respected colleges of agriculture you could fine.

Not that I'm biased. My degree is from the College of Agriculture, yes, but they had that reputation long before I enrolled. CoAg still has a tremendous reputation because of top-flight research by students and faculty.

This was a quarterly publication since been absorbed by the Alabama Cooperative Extension System. Today it also has a step-sibling that's published commercially and just off campus. Literally, across the street.

Years later I would meet a few of the people responsible for putting this publication together. It didn't occur to me, at those times, to be nitpicky and ask why a hunter and his dogs made the cover of The Alabama Farmer.
