Dr. Perry Morton was the head of the Samford University physics department from 1969 to 1994. Born in Arkansas, educated at Rice, Mississippi State and Duke, Morton served in the Pacific during World War II and taught Sunday school when he got back home.
I found this headshot in archives while cleaning out one of the old student offices on campus. It had been sitting on a cork board for who knows how long, eyes staring out into an empty room, thinking about vectors, surrounded by books that are smarter than most of us. It needed to be seen again.
He died just a few months before this writing, at the age of 87. On Facebook there is a link to his obituary, with notes below the link from students who studied physics under Morton over the years.
His son is twice a Samford graduate, and a partner in a large law firm in Birmingham.
