What do you suspect became of this family?
Bob, there on the left, began insisting everyone call him Boris, thinking himself a Russian aristocrat. His sisters made fine homes for their families. His brother had the look about him, but he had a quiet career selling shoes.
The grandparents, in the back, wanted the best for their family, and they generally got their wish, Boris' trips to the sanitarium notwithstanding.
The granddaughters lived their lives, watching as they passed from one world into a completely different world. The tales they would tell of a hardscrabble childhood to their grandchildren, are still floating around out there somewhere today. They are lodged in the memories of now-grown children who couldn't possibly imagine those old ladies as kids themselves.
