I wish we could know something about this photograph. Where this guy grew up, where he did his duty and when.

This is all we get though. He looks cold. And happy.

His whole life is before him. Did he do great things? Average things? Did he come back healthy and happy or bitter or haunted? Did he make it home?

This was fixed firmly in a photo album from New England. The name wasn't written on the back. Who he was was obvious. When this was was important. We don't even know if his war was over or just beginning.
