Inscription: Me, Sara and William.
On the front: 1922.
I've decided one of two things about the "Me" and William that are found throughout this scrapbook. They're either a sister-brother pair or lifelong friends with whom the "Me" -- and we never learn her name, unfortunately -- later falls madly in love.
Taking this photograph might have been the first time the kids were allowed to climb the tree and dangle. And William, so cavalier, letting the one hand go. The parents would frown on that, but when they weren't looking he'd had lots of practice with no hands. And how higher, smaller branches.
I wonder how long that tree lived and how many more years they would climb it. Maybe they went back years later and gave the branches a nice pull for old times' sake.
