Inscription: Lauire and Mike or Ike.

On the front: 1922.

This is the same girl, but from a few years earlier. The year written in the bottom right corner suggests this notation came long after the photograph. Someone was hoping to remember this, to place that girl and that cat and that little shack together in a sequence in their memory.

And all of that is lost to us now.

She looks mischevious here. The cat is entranced by something taking place off camera. The little girl has a nice dress on, but is kneeling in a dusty yard, careful to keep the material out of the dirt.

That shack might be a chicken coop, but it is difficult to tell. The trash heap behind it suggests a place in flux. Maybe they'd just moved into the neighborhood. Maybe they had to rebuild or add.

Maybe it was all Mike or Ike's fault. If that's so cats haven't changed, at all, in the intervening 85 years.

The kitty also scared the chickens away.
